Frewer Engineering was selected by North West Aerotooling to conduct all the structural analysis and design work for a new aero engine test-bed Airmeter. Working ‘hand-in-glove’ with Frewer Engineering, NWA was able to manufacture the nearly 2m diameter carbon composite structure to tight specifications imposed by the customer and as Frewer’s design and analysis necessitated. Frewer’s extensive composite knowledge also allowed us to incorporate innovative design features for bonding and securing critically positioned inserts. Frewer Engineering completed concept down selection and subsequent FEED of a 300 tonne weights system to be integrated into our gravity energy storage prototype. They provided a high standard of work in an efficient manner, ultimately allowing us to meet our deadlines. The work included developing designs for the main structure and connection mechanisms, choosing of suitable materials and iterative structural analysis. To complete the puzzle, Frewer then produced a series of process diagrams to show assembly, testing and emergency relief procedures as well as developing initial component drawings for quotation. We look forward to working together again in the future!
