Advanced Composites Division

Frewer Engineerings’s Advanced Composites Division was set up in 2018 to satisfy a growing demand for a requirement to design and analyse lightweight composite structures for the Aerospace, Nuclear, Marine, Defence and Automotive industries. Our multi-disciplined engineering team has been built to combine the skill-sets of experienced composites engineers from the worlds of Formula One, aerospace and marine and match them with those of younger generation of MEng and BEng graduates equipped with knowledge of the latest academic research and software toolsets.

By investing in the very latest analysis software tools from MSC including NASTRAN, PATRAN and DIGIMAT as well as Anaglyph’s CoDA composite design tool, the Advanced Composites Division offers customers complete turn-key solutions including concept design, laminate stack creation and optimisation, finite element structural analysis and component detailing for manufacture.

The Advanced Composites Division seamlessly integrates with Frewer’s Advanced Engineering and Advanced Analysis & CFD Divisions, frequently joining forces to offer customers a holistic solution for projects that require cross-Divisional expertise.

Advanced Composites Division offers:

  • Lightweight composite component design and analysis services.
  • An agile and integrated team with multi-year experience in designing composite structures in carbon fibre and E-glass.
  • An ever-expanding in-house database of mechanical properties for carbon and E-glass composite materials of differing resins, fabric types and styles and varying fibre volume fractions.
  • Experience in designing lightweight aero structures operating in high-temperature environments.
  • Experience in designing marine structures for surface vessels and sub-surface vessels subjected to extreme environmental conditions.
  • Structural optimisation services; whether for stiffness, strength, weight or a combination of all three.
  • A complete CAD design and drafting service using user-preferred software tools.
  • Facilitating manufacturer options through a network of composite manufacturing partners servicing disparate industry sectors.

Cross Divisional support and services:

  • Integration of projects involving composite design of lightweight structures in thermally challenging environments e.g. aero engines, nuclear power plants.
  • Integration of projects involving composite structures within fluid flow environments e.g. projects combining FEA and CFD analysis.
  • Integration of projects involving composite structures and fluid-structure interaction e.g. projects combing FEA, FSI and/or CFD.
