Agile Engineering Support for UAS Programmes

The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) sector spans a range of applications across defence, renewable energy, commercial, and emergency services. Each application brings unique operational requirements with bespoke engineering solutions.

The Frewer Engineering team is strategically placed to provide rapid, agile support expertise in structural design, aerodynamic analysis, and lightweight optimisation. Reflecting the growth of the sector, we have supported multiple UAS programmes, helping organisations navigate technical reviews while meeting performance targets.

A core capability within this sector is our composite design and analysis expertise. Our team brings years of experience from automotive, transport, and aerospace programmes offering support with dynamic structural analysis, composite fatigue and detailed layup definitions. Our close collaboration with suppliers and end users ensures designs are practical to manufacture and robust in service, reducing programme risk and minimising delays.

For organisations operating in the UAS sector, Frewer Engineering provides the agile expertise required to de-risk early designs while maintaining a competitive edge. Click below to learn more about our engineering and composites capabilities.

Mark Webb Joins the Team

Mark has joined Frewer Engineering as our new Principal Design Engineer, bringing extensive experience in safety-first engineering and a strong track record across the Oil & Gas and Automotive sectors, as well as other engineering environments. Throughout his career, Mark has delivered advanced projects that demand rigorous standards, practical problem-solving and close collaboration with customers and colleagues.

His cross-industry background is a great fit for Frewer Engineering’s focus on creative, robust and detailed design. Mark will play a key role in supporting project delivery, strengthening our design capability, and helping drive continuous improvement across the business. Bringing wide-ranging experience across demanding industries and a practical, solutions-led mindset, he adds further depth to the team as we continue to grow and take on new challenges.

We’re delighted to welcome Mark to Frewer Engineering and look forward to the impact he’ll make.

Supporting Surrey Uni – UAS challenge

We’re excited to be supporting the University of Surrey’s Peryton UAS team in this year’s IMechE UAS Challenge. We’ve seen firsthand the positive impact this competition has on developing young engineers and preparing them for careers in industry. As evidence of this, previous team leaders have gone on to work at Frewer Engineering, highlighting the strong practical and professional grounding the challenge provides.

The aim for this year’s team is to design an autonomous “crop duster” aircraft, carrying the maximum possible payload within a 10 kg maximum take-off mass. Starting from a blank sheet of paper, the team will take the aircraft from initial concept through to a fully built and tested system over the course of the academic year.

This year’s design takes the form of a carbon-fibre flying wing, and we’ll be supporting the team by sharing our composite engineering experience to help them develop a functional, well considered aircraft. Alongside this, we’ll be offering guidance on the analysis of their composite structures, ensuring the team develops the practical engineering skills needed beyond the competition.
