Aero-Engine Ground Test Pylon

Due to our customers’ increased engine size for cleaner, quieter, and more efficient flight, a brand-new pylon design was required to enable them to demonstrate these improvements.

Brand-New Pylon Architecture

Renowned for an innovative, adaptable and creative approach to engineering design and analysis, we provided a turnkey solution, from conception through to full design justification and assurance.

Withstanding Larger Loads

Increased engine size has resulted in greater loads compared to legacy designs. Our ability to model complex systems with cutting-edge analytical tools resulted in an optimised high-strength metallic structure which acted as the backbone of the design.

Increased Size vs Reducing Mass

A larger pylon was required for the new engine design, whilst maintaining compatibility with test-cell weight limits. Alongside an optimised metallic structure, our composites specialists designed lightweight composite panels for critical aerosurfaces to keep the weight to a minimum.

Stiffness Tuned to Flight Version

The pylon was required to respond dynamically in a similar manner to the flight version, ensuring testing accurately reflected the flight case. Efficient exploration of different concepts and advanced structural dynamics assessments lead to a solution that suitably replicated the flight equivalent.
