    Requirments Capture

Effective requirements definition is key to the success of any engineering project. At Frewer Engineering, we make sure projects start on the right path with requirements capture support.

We work with our customers to gather functional and technical requirements via workshops, interviews, and document reviews, using stakeholder mapping to ensure all relevant parties are involved in the process.  During this phase, our engineers use their own experience and understanding of the application to offer fresh views on the project’s requirements. Our team adds further value by rationalising, prioritising and challenging requirements, providing an impartial assessment of the requirements to ensure they are justified, achievable and contribute to the customer’s desired outcomes.

In addition, our engineers are extensively experienced in compliance reviews and risk assessments for such projects. Creation and assessment of compliance matrices as well as developing DFMEA and project risk assessments allows us to identify issues and establish appropriate mitigations to enhance requirement reviews & de-risk design programmes.

With these competencies, Frewer Engineering offers a reliable third-party perspective for rationalising complex system requirements into a robust, manageable specification, ensuring design challenges are measurable and achievable.

Root Cause Analysis Using Digital Twins

Identifying underlying issues is essential for enhancing system reliability and preventing future failures. At Frewer Engineering, we specialise in analysing the mechanical effectiveness of systems through advanced digital modelling. Using cutting-edge software such as Siemens NX, we create digital twins of systems, allowing us to simulate real-world performance without the cost of physical testing.

For example, in a drivetrain system facing gear wear and backlash issues, we used our virtual model, applying manufacturing tolerances to assess how variations in component manufacturing and assembly alignment affected wear rates and overall reliability. This analysis enabled us to recommend design adjustments to our customer that minimised backlash, improved gear durability, and extended the system’s operational life.

Our virtual models not only enhance performance and provide cost savings for our customers but also allow for further analysis, such as fatigue and thermal performance evaluations. By utilising these models, we also contribute to sustainability efforts, reducing waste and environmental impact through more efficient design and testing processes.

    Versatile Approach to Software

An engineering consultancy that serves diverse industries must be well-equipped to address a wide array of technical challenges. At Frewer Engineering, we offer an extensive range of software spanning Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), multi-physics coupling, structural analysis, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD). This comprehensive suite allows us to provide tailored, effective solutions for customers, regardless of the complexity or scope of their projects.

Our advanced design team works seamlessly with all the major CAD packages our customers require, such as Siemens NX and PTC Creo, ensuring compatibility and smooth integration with their existing workflows. This adaptability allows us to produce designs that align with customer standards without the need for data conversion.

This flexibility extends to our selection of fluid analysis tools, including scFLOW, scStream, scTetra, ANSYS Fluent, and OpenFOAM. With these tools, we can analyse various flow scenarios, from turbulent multiphase flows to simple pressure assessments, which then informs our design team in the development of optimised flow structures.

Our structural analysis tools for Finite Element Analysis (FEA), such as NX/MSC Nastran, and Siemens FEMAP, support multi-physics coupling and composite analysis. This enables us to conduct fluid-structure and thermal-stress coupling analyses tailored to environmental requirements.

We also develop bespoke in-house analysis tools tailored to the exact needs of each task. Recent additions include rotor dynamics software for both 1D and 2D analysis, which we can use alongside our FEA tools, providing cost-effective solutions for specialised projects.
