Latest News June 2026

Welcome to the latest Frewer Engineering newsletter.

This month’s edition features our newest member, our work with the defence sector, attendance at FIA 2026 and how we’ve supported a local restoration.

We hope you enjoy the read!

Welcome to the Newest Member of the Team

This month, we welcome Toby Wilcox, who joins us at Frewer Engineering as a Senior Design & Analysis Engineer. Toby recently completed his PhD in Advanced Composite Materials at the University of Bristol. His research investigated active cooling mechanisms within carbon fibre structures for rotorcraft applications. Prior to this, Toby gained experience in research and development with a technology start-up, as well as biomechanical design for a bicycle manufacturer.

Toby brings a strong analytical approach and a broad understanding of composite structures, combining academic research with practical engineering experience. His knowledge and expertise will further strengthen our capability in advanced engineering projects.

We are delighted to welcome him to Frewer Engineering and look forward to his contributions.

Frewer Engineering’s Continued Support to the Defence Sector

Frewer Engineering continues to play an active role in supporting the defence sector, applying our specialist engineering design, analysis, and technical delivery capabilities to complex and demanding programmes. As we reach the halfway point of the year, approximately 80% of the work we have delivered has clear routes back to defence requirements, reflecting both the strength of our expertise and the trust placed in us by customers operating in this critical sector.

We’re on course for a busy second half of the year, with ongoing and upcoming activity supporting numerous defence customers across a range of engineering challenges. Our focus remains on delivering responsive, high-quality technical support that helps customers progress safely, efficiently, and with confidence.

With the release of the Defence Industrial Plan today, we look forward to expanding our contribution further, supporting both existing and new customers as defence priorities continue to evolve. We’re always happy to speak with organisations looking for trusted engineering support and would welcome the opportunity to explore how Frewer Engineering can help.

Frewer at Farnborough – FIA 2026

Next month, delegates from the Frewer Engineering will be attending the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the highlights of the aerospace and defence calendar. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces, catching up with customers and partners, and meeting new people across the industry.

This is a valuable opportunity to have meaningful conversations about the engineering challenges organisations are tackling, share ideas, and explore where our expertise can add value. Whether you need targeted analysis support or a trusted engineering partner to help deliver a wider programme, we’d be pleased to discuss how we can support your business.

If you’re attending and would like to meet up, please get in touch. We look forward to seeing you there!

Supporting Ockley Windmill Restoration

Ockley Windmill was built in 1803 and remained in use until the early 1900s. After decades of decline, the structure eventually collapsed in 1944. It wasn’t until Pete James purchased the site that plans were put in place to restore the historic post mill.

An engineer by trade, Pete completed the first stage of the restoration in 2007, rebuilding the brick base and timber structure before converting the windmill into his home. Now, nearly two decades later, Pete is completing the project by recreating the striking gear assembly, sails and shutters.

Having worked alongside our engineers earlier in his career, Pete knew exactly who to call when he wanted some additional engineering support. Frewer Engineering has been helping by producing CAD models for many of the striking gear components and reviewing the engineering drawings Pete has developed.

It’s been a pleasure to support Pete on a project that has clearly meant a great deal to him over many years, and we’re proud to be playing a small part in restoring this piece of local history.
