Fresh Faces at Frewer

Placement students Jack Hutton and Fraser Robertson

We’re delighted to welcome Jack Hutton and Fraser Robertson, both from the University of Bath, who have joined Frewer Engineering for a year-long placement.

A placement year at Frewer Engineering is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience across real engineering projects, working alongside our experienced team. It’s a chance to put academic knowledge into practice, develop practical engineering skills, and learn from the challenges and opportunities that come with working across a range of sectors. Throughout the year, we’ll provide support and mentorship while giving them the opportunity to contribute to analysis and design projects.

We’re looking forward to seeing what Fraser and Jack bring to the team over the year ahead, and to supporting them as they build their engineering experience, confidence and knowledge.

Composite Capabilities

Composite component designed by Frewer Engineering

The aerospace industry continues to increase its use of composite structures, driven by the need for lighter, more efficient structures. The challenge is shifting from what composites can achieve structurally to how efficiently and consistently they can be manufactured.

Recent industry programmes are progressing towards the production of large-scale composite wing and fuselage structures, with manufacturing processes, automation and inspection all forming part of the wider challenge.

The Frewer Engineering team supports composite programmes from early concept development through to detailed design and manufacturing support. Our work across aerospace and other demanding sectors means we look beyond structural performance alone, factoring in practical realities like tooling, inspection and assembly from the outset.

As the world tends towards high volume composite structures production, integrating automation and design-for-manufacture considerations from the outset will be increasingly important in delivering robust and commercially viable solutions. It’s a challenge our team is well placed to help navigate, bringing design and manufacturing thinking together from day one.

Autonomous Submersibles Lead the Way

AUKUS Pillar 2 has confirmed uncrewed undersea vehicles are now at the forefront of Britain’s strategy to keep our seas safe. The next big challenge lies in designing novel submersible structures for pressure cycle durability and resistance to harsh shock loading events, faster than the competition.

With advanced computational analysis capabilities, and pedigree qualifying metallic and composite structures for the most demanding operating environments, Frewer Engineering is positioned to accelerate your technology development programme.

In practice this means sitting alongside our customers’ engineers, building the analysis models early, and testing candidate designs against realistic load cases before anything is committed to. The aim is fewer surprises later in the programme, when changes are expensive.
