Change of Ownership at Frewer Engineering
PRESS RELEASE
Richard Lock becomes majority shareholder of Frewer Engineering
Peter Frewer to remain with the business as Non-Executive Director, securing continuity for clients and staff
Ockley, Surrey, 21 October 2026 – Frewer Engineering, the engineering design and analysis consultancy serving the aerospace, marine, defence and energy sectors, today announces that Dr Richard Lock, Managing Director, has acquired a majority shareholding in the business from Peter Frewer.
Peter Frewer will continue to support the company as a Non-Executive Director. The change completes a planned succession and places ownership with the leader already responsible for the firm’s day-to-day direction.
Continuity for clients and staff
For clients, nothing changes in how work is delivered. Existing contracts, project teams and points of contact remain in place, as do the company’s quality, security and compliance arrangements.
Richard Lock has led the business as Managing Director since 1 January 2024 and brings over 20 years of experience in engineering and project delivery across aerospace and defence programmes. As majority shareholder, he will lead the company’s strategy, client relationships and growth.
As Non-Executive Director, Peter Frewer will provide board-level oversight, strategic counsel and continuity of the relationships and know-how built over 40 years. His ongoing involvement ensures a measured handover rather than an abrupt change.
Securing the long-term future of the business
The transition positions Frewer Engineering for its next phase of growth while protecting what has made it successful. Key benefits include:
- Planned succession, not disruption. Ownership passes to an established leader from within, avoiding the uncertainty of an external sale.
- Ownership aligned with leadership. The person running the business now owns it, enabling faster decisions and long-term investment in people, capability and systems.
- Retained experience. Peter’s role as Non-Executive Director keeps his knowledge, network and judgement available to the board.
- Stability for long-cycle programmes. Aerospace and defence clients rely on suppliers that will be there for the life of a programme. Clear, committed ownership reduces key-person and continuity risk in their supply chains.
- Independence preserved. Frewer Engineering remains an independent, owner-managed consultancy, focused on its clients rather than on an exit.
- A platform for growth. The new structure supports investment in the team, expansion into adjacent sectors and continued development of expertise in test rig development.
“It’s a privilege to take on ownership of Frewer Engineering. Peter has built a business with an outstanding reputation for technical excellence and trusted client relationships, and I’m grateful for his support through this transition. Our clients can expect the same people, the same standards and the same commitment. My focus now is on investing in our team and capabilities so that Frewer Engineering continues to be a partner our clients can rely on for years to come.”
Dr Richard Lock, Managing Director and majority shareholder
“Seeing the business I’ve helped build pass to someone who already lives its values is the best outcome I could have hoped for. Richard has shown real leadership as Managing Director, and I have complete confidence in him and the team. I’m delighted to stay involved as a Non-Executive Director and to support the company’s next chapter.”
